Post meal workout, Protein Tips, and Chest Day

“The pain you feel today, is the strength you feel tomorrow”

It has been a week since my last blog post, and for those of you that decided to start hitting the gym I’m sure you can relate to the quote above. By now every muscle in your body should be hurting and that’s a good sign. All the pain you are feeling is nothing more then the lactic acid build up necessary for creating more muscle.  On a side note, I have always found this concept to be a little sadistic. After all the concept of exercising is we literally break ourselves down to build ourselves up.

To minimize the amount of pain you feel, make sure you drink plenty of water and eat as soon as your done at the gym. This is a common mistake people make all the time. After the gym you exhaust all of the energy and your muscles are “hungry”. If you cant have a meal look into getting some protein and a protein shaker to make the shakes. These two things will become your best friends. If you do decide to go out and buy some protein, keep in mind brand names are not always important. Back when I was studying to become a personal trainer I read, “its not the brand that matters but the type of protein you take”.

There are different types of proteins each promoting different results. Some proteins are for building muscle, while others can be used simply as a meal replacement to help people cut weight. So before you go out and buy protein make sure to find the type that serves the purpose to your goal. Im personally a fan of the vitamin shoppe brand ISOLATED WHEY protein.  It is not to expensive, and isolated whey is the best for recovery after a tough work out while at the same time it helps you cut weight.

However, if you do have time to make a meal then any lean meat and vegies should be included in your  diet. My favorite meal to cook is chicken with some spices I like and my special mixed vegetables. No matter what the meal always try to fit in some vegies. A lot of vegetables have almost no calories to them, this is the easiest way to fill yourself up without over indulging and hating yourself later feeling like a slob.

Anyway enough about dieting ill be covering that in my future posts. This week we are focusing on the glory muscles. Beach season might be out but we can alwas start prepping early. To start off im going to give some tips for new types of chest work outs. My personal favorite work outs involve chest presses, flys, and the all time classic push ups.

For people who want to build up their chest, chest press and flys would benefit you the most. There are three types of chest presses incline, decline, and regular press on your back. Try giving each of these work outs a shot trying to get 12-14 reps and increasing the weight after every set. Same routine with chest flies which is depicted in the second picture below. Do these workouts and you will obtain a bigger more defined chest.

Finally Pushups are my favorite of all chest workouts. When your looking for more definition multiple sets of pushups are just what the doctor ordered. Always start of with the regular classic pushup. When your able to do this form comfortably try doing more advanced pushups.

Anyway its time I head to the gym guys stay focused, determined, and always push yourself for that one more rep before you call it a day.

  1. I try to exercise most days, but on the rare occasion when it’s way too cold outside, or I am simply too busy, my roommate and I always sneak in some exercise. If you live in the Quads, you’ve probably heard that one room, blasting some really aggressive Kanye West with disco lights on…. at midnight. That’s us. We can justify three servings of ice cream a day by doing maybe thirty pushups at night. By the time DPS shows up we’re already trying to fall asleep. I admire your commitment to the gym, but I like my system too.

  2. Great quote to start with and some great tips. I agree with the comment above. Its all about finding the right way to exercise your body. You just have to figure out how your body works.
